As last time, it was really informative and gave a good idea of textiles and accessories as per the upcoming trends. These days LTF is hot on the fashion trail with print studios and trend forecasts along with textiles.

But the most amazing thing this time around was the new company from North Carolina – Plougboy Organics.

I had read before arriving at the fair that, ‘RALEIGH, North Carolina (July 04, 2012) – Company Founder and Chairman, Suzanne De Vall, will personally attend the London Textile Fair on July 18th and 19th, 2012 to premier her breakthrough discovery which transforms the tobacco plant into a renewable resource — pertaining specifically to dyes and fibers for use in the apparel and home goods industries.

This patent pending technology has significance because it allows organic, non- toxic dying to be done on a large scale commercial level. Moreover, Ms. De Vall’s innovation utilizes specialized equipment that requires a fraction of the water used by conventional dyes and leaves virtually no toxic waste by products in the environment. This process offers the marketplace a completely organic and natural dye that is comparatively low in cost with respect to many organic dying methods available today. It also eliminates the need to purify toxic water expelled by conventional dye processes.

In the world of today tobacco is hardly renowned as an ethical product. However Suzanne De Vall, Founder and Chairman of Ploughboy Organics has dedicated thirty years of her life to developing a renewable tobacco based product, which is set to revolutionize the textile industry, and in turn transform the way society thinks about a plant which usually has very negative connotations.

Thanks to the ground breaking technology recently developed by Ploughboy Organics, the tobacco plant has been transformed into a renewable resource – creating dyes and fibers/textiles for use in the clothing and interiors industries which are not only more cost effective, but also completely non-toxic. The revolutionary new products are set be launched at the London Textile Fair this month.

As trade show season is in full swing, today is the first day of the London Textile Fair, one of London’s leading textile exhibitions.

The event will be held in the impressive 20,000 sq. ft Business Design Centre in Islington for the first time.

For me, this is a glimpse into future trends, working out what knits, denims and jerseys we’ll all be buying come autumn 13 – yes, next autumn!

I’m particularly excited about discovering unusual textiles and innovative technologies, such as Ploughboy Organics, who will premier its new discovery at the show (turning the tobacco plant into a resource for creating dyes and fibres).

For more on that, check out my report of the show in the July 28 issue of the magazine. All the textile fans should also follow the Drapers twitter (@drapers) for all my tweets live from the event.
